Title: Sandarac
Literature References: Resin from Callitris quadrivalvis Vent., Pinaceae. Habit. Morocco. Constit. About 80% pimaric acid, about 10% callitrolic acid; sandaricinic acid.
Properties: Light yellow, brittle, elongated tears; translucent with vitreous fracture; crumbles to powder when masticated. Insol in water, benzene, petr ether. Sol in alcohol, ether, acetone, hot caustic alkalies; partially sol in chloroform, volatile oils, oil turpentine, carbon disulfide.
Use: Tooth cements, lacquers, varnishes; as an incense. Pharmaceutic aid (in ointments and plasters).
