Properties: White, hygroscopic powder. Bitter taste. Very sol in water. Sol in alc. Practically insol in ether. Aq solns are alkaline to litmus. The soly in elixirs is increased by the presence of methenamine. LD50 orally in rats: 125 mg/kg (Schafer).
