Properties: Odorless, cryst powder; sensitive to light. Poisonous! Sol in 90 parts cold, 40 parts boiling water; freely sol in NaCl soln; slightly sol in alcohol. When boiled with water or alc it hydrolyzes to a basic salt and free benzoic acid. Protect from light.
 
Therap-Cat: Formerly as antisyphilitic.
