Properties: White to grayish-brown powder. Slightly disagreeable odor. Somewhat less bitter than bacitracin. uv max (dil acetic acid): 318 nm, min: 280 nm. Solubility in water about 50 mg/ml. pH of satd aq soln 3.5 to 5.0. Sol in pyridine, ethanol, less sol to insol in acetone, ether, chloroform, pentane, benzene. Sol in dil aq alkali at pH 6 and higher, increasingly insol at pH 6 to 3.
Absorption maximum: uv max (dil acetic acid): 318 nm, min: 280 nm
