Literature References: Volatile oil from fresh flowers of Rosa gallica L. and R. damascena Mill. and varieties of these species (Rosaceae). Constit. 70-75% free geraniol and citronellol; small amounts of their esters; terpenes.
Properties: Colorless or pale yellow liquid; viscous at 25°; highly fragrant, rose odor. d3015 0.848-0.863. Congeals at 18-22° to a translucent, cryst mass. aD25 -1 to -4°. nD30 1.457-1.463. Very slightly sol in water, sparingly sol in alcohol; sol in fatty oils, chloroform. Keep cool in well-closed and well-filled containers and protected from light.

Index of refraction: nD30 1.457-1.463
Density: d3015 0.848-0.863
Use: Largely in perfumery; for flavoring lozenges, ointments, and toilet prepns.
