Literature References: Light, hard, rough, porous, gray masses or a gritty, gray-colored powder of volcanic origin. Found chiefly in the Lipari islands and in the Greek archipelagos. Consists mainly of complex silicates of Al, K, and Na. It is insol in water and is not attacked by acids.
Use: Abrasive in metal polishes; in fireproofing and insulating compds; also as a carrier for metal catalysts. In pharmacy as filtering medium and dispersant. In cosmetics for removing rough skin.
