Literature References: Name used for several plants of the Rhus species. Leaves of Rhus glabra L. and Rhus typhina L., Anacardiaceae are known commercially as North American Sumach. They contain fisetin, dihydrofisetin, 27% tannin and gallic acid esters. Constituents of the Rhus typhina fruit: J. Tischer, Pharmazie 15, 83 (1960).
Use: North American sumach as black dye; as scenting agent for tobacco.
