Properties: White, small crystals or crystalline powder; pleasant aromatic odor and taste. d 1.25; mp 41-43°; bp12 173°. One gram dissolves in 6670 ml water, 6 ml alcohol, 1.5 ml benzene, 5 ml amyl alcohol, 10 ml liq paraffin, 4 ml almond oil. Sol in acetone, chloroform, ether, oils; very slightly sol in glycerol. Solubility at 25° in g/100 g: absolute ethanol 53; ethyl acetate 470; methyl ethyl ketone 620; toluene 460; Stoddard solvent 88; water less than 0.1%. Incompat. Bromine water, ferric salts; camphor, monobromated camphor, phenol, chloral hydrate, thymol or urethan in trituration.

Use: In the manuf of various polymers for the plastics industry, also in lacquers, adhesives, waxes, polishes. In suntan oils and cremes. As light absorber to prevent discoloration of plastics. Has some plasticizer properties.
Therap-Cat: Analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory.
Therap-Cat-Vet: Has been used externally as a disinfectant, internally as an intestinal antiseptic and antipyretic.
