Literature References: Term that has been applied to petroleum fractions of the same nature as described for petroleum benzin, q.v., but of higher density, higher boiling range and higher flash pt. Defined by ASTM prior to 1950 as synonymous with petroleum benzin and petroleum ether: ASTM Standard Specifications D 288-49, 865-867 (1949).
Properties: Refined solvent, mobile, flammable liquid. d15.615.6 0.850 to 0.870. Distillation range at 760 mm: percentage recovered at 130° = not more than 5; percentage recovered at 145° = not less than 90. End point (dry point) = not above 155°. Technical benzin (high boiling petr ether) usually has a d15.615.6 0.730-0.750 and bp760 90-120°.
